Based in Rochester, Kent, KKB Group offers a wide range of services, including demolition, remediation, recycling, plant hire, and civil engineering across the UK.

Formed over 20 years ago, the company has grown into one of the most respected and well-known names within the industry. They pride themselves on their drive and capability to increase land value for their clients, while enhancing the environmental performance of the regeneration and built environment process.

With such a wide and diverse range of services offered to their client base, KKB strives to purchase the best equipment available to enable them to undertake their work as productively and efficiently as possible.

KKB’s quarrying and recycling division has recently taken delivery of two Finlay 883+ tracked scalping screeners from UK dealer Molson Finlay for one of their large crushing contracts with a major aggregate producer.

The Finlay 883+ mobile scalping screener has been developed as a high capacity and versatile heavy duty scalping screener. It is designed to work in primary and secondary screening applications, such as the quarrying, demolition and recycling sectors, and has the versatility to handle a wide range of materials.

From the ground up, the 883+ mobile scalping screener has been built to handle the harshest of environments. Sitting on a long and wide tracked undercarriage, the scalping screener is able to effortlessly manoeuvre itself into position under the worst of ground conditions. Its robust frame carries the easy to access engine and cooling pack, while the 137hp Cat engine offers excellent access for routine service and maintenance. Finlay has recently added an electric motor option for the 883+ mobile scalping screener, allowing it to run from a suitable electrical supply, removing the need for refuelling which further reduces operating costs.

Designed to offer class leading productivity, the in-feed hopper on the 883+ mobile scalping screener can be adjusted to allow loading either from an excavator or the out feed conveyor of a crusher. With a huge 7m3 capacity, the heavy duty hopper has been designed to withstand the constant impact of materials, and users report excellent longevity thanks to its impressive build quality.

On this particular project the 883+ mobile scalping screeners are being fed directly from the crusher’s out feed conveyor with a steady stream of material. The machine’s inclined sceenbox can be adjusted between 13° and 19° to suit the material and production requirements and is fitted with a pair of screen decks, both measuring 1.53m wide by 4.8m in length. Each deck can be fitted with a wide choice of screening media, allowing it to suit the material being processed. Whilst the top deck is flat, the bottom deck employs a slightly curved profile, which allows it to maximise the screening of fine material. The discharge end of the screenbox can be hydraulically raised by 500mm, facilitating the quick and safe removal of screening media and ensuring downtime is kept to a minimum.

As the material passes through the screening media, it is separated into three different sizes and passed onto the three discharge conveyors. Each conveyor is fully reversible and is powered by its own independent hydraulic circuit, allowing the speed to be regulated and consistent. Each conveyor is adjustable, with the oversize conveyor capable of producing a stockpile of 70m3, the mid-size 58m3 and the fines conveyor 75m3. All three can be increased with the optional extended discharge heights.

The 883+ mobile scalping screener has a rated production capacity of up to 600 tonnes per hour, depending on the material being processed. This is ideally suited to the large crushers operated by KKB, and it ensures they are meeting, and exceeding, their production rates on a daily basis.

Craig Hore, Director of KKB Group said: “Both our Finlay 883+ mobile scalping screener are operating 12 hour shifts on this particular contract, and they have been delivering excellent productivity results for us. Throughout our time running them, they have been reliable and fuel efficient, with just one issue, a broken bearing. This was identified quickly with a phone call to Molson, andan engineer was out within a couple of hours with the part, and had us up and running again the following day. That is the service and back up we want from our suppliers, as it ensures that we are able to keep up with our production and keep our customers happy. We like the fact that T-Link telematics is available on the Finlay 883+ mobile scalping screeners helping us monitor their productivity and production remotely.”
