Anderson Construction upgraded to the SK75SR-7Kobelco excavator based on the strong performance of their previous model. The new mini excavatordelivers stability and efficiency for a range of projects, with the support of Molson Scotland helping to minimise downtime and maintain high-quality work.

Anderson Construction is a contractor based on the West Coast of Scotland, boasting over a decade of experience in civil engineering and groundworks. They are known for their hands-on approach and are willing to travel for the right job. The team takes on a diverse range of projects, including remote infrastructure work such as hydro schemes and powerlines, to repairing forest roads. Their versatility and commitment to delivering projects to a high standard have helped them establish a strong reputation throughout the region.

Recently, Anderson Construction upgraded to the SK75SR-7Kobelco excavator to replace their older model, a decision made easy by their confidence in the previous machine’s performance. Danny Anderson explained, “We couldn’t fault our last Kobelco excavator, and the new SK75SR-7 mini excavator’s mono boom was a major factor in our decision.” The mono boom provides excellent stability and balance, making it ideal for the varied terrain encountered during projects like forest road repairs.”

The mono boom design on the Kobelco mini excavators helps centralize the weight and reduces side forces, making it especially effective when using a tilt rotator for more detailed work. To further enhance stability, Anderson Construction added a Balas block, providing the operator with improved control and confidence on-site. The SK75SR-7 mini excavator also offers versatility, with an option for a side drain boom, making it suitable for a wide range of applications, from forest paths to house site preparation.

The SK75SR-7 Kobelco excavator comes with the new Yanmar 4TNV98CT engine that meets Stage V emissions standards to deliver excellent fuel efficiency. Additionally, due to its increased power output of 71.1hp and improved hydraulic system it provides a faster cycle time of 15% compared to its previous model. Due to the nature of work that Anderson construction undertakes, many are in remote locations, so Danny needed something that wasn’t only efficient but also something that you could comfortably spend a full day in. Equipped with the cab from a 14t machine, the Kobelco excavator cab comes with numerous features designed with the operator in mind. These include an air ride suspension seat, multi-vent air conditioning and ergonomic controls for a more natural hand placement when controlling the machine.

Their latest forestry road construction took place on the outskirts of Acharacle near Kentra Bay. To build the path, Anderson Construction needed to crush larger aggregate on site into a usable size. For this, they turned to their BF80.3 MB Crusher Bucket, mounted on a 14-tonne excavator. The setup allowed them to process material on site as they progressed along the route, eliminating the need for a separate crusher or reliance on pre-processed stone. The BF80.3 is a popular crusher bucket, suited 8 to 14-tonne excavators and produces material from 15mm to 120mm. With a 0.80m³ capacity and tough Hardox build, it easily handled the heavy aggregate required for the track.

While the 14-tonner handled the crushing duties, the new SK75SR-7 Kobelco excavator was used to shape and level the route. With its compact size, mono boom, and tilt-rotator, the mini excavator was ideal for working in the confined, uneven terrain of the forest. The 14-tonner and min excavator  working side-by-side kept the team efficient and self-sufficient—even in the remote conditions—highlighting the importance of having the right equipment for every stage of the job.

While Anderson Construction handles all their servicing and maintenance in-house to keep downtime to a minimum, they rely on Molson Scotland for parts support. Having access to genuine parts and fast delivery through Molson means they can keep their machines running smoothly without waiting on supply chains—crucial when working in remote areas where delays aren’t an option.

For Anderson Construction, it’s not just the machine that counts—it’s the support behind it. Working in places where delays can result in days of lost production, having someone dependable on the other end of the phone makes a real difference. “Dealing with Molson has been great—the service and sales team has been fantastic to deal with,” says Danny. Whether it’s getting the right part out quickly or just having someone who understands the job, that kind of backup helps keep the focus on the work, not the waiting.

Anderson Construction replaced their previous SK75 Kobelco excavator with the latest model because they knew it could handle the work. It’s already proving reliable out on site, and with Molson providing solid backup when needed, the team can focus on the job without unnecessary delays. For a business that takes on remote, challenging projects, that kind of consistency makes all the difference.
