Gordon Bow Plant Hire has just taken delivery of 33 brand-new 9-tonne cabbed Thwaites dumpers, a major investment that reflects the company’s ongoing growth and commitment to supporting projects across Scotland and Northern England.

Meeting Demand for High-Spec Site Equipment

These tough machines are already making an impact with one currently hard at work at the Minnygap Wind Farm in Dumfries and Galloway, helping Jack1 Construction carry out vital maintenance and infrastructure upgrades. Whether hired as operated or as self-drive, Gordon Bow’s fleet is known for being well-maintained, reliable and ready to take on challenging environments.

Strengthening the Partnership with Molson Scotland

Sales Manager Richie Stuart visited the Minnygap Wind Farm to see one of Gordon Bow Plant Hire’s new 9-tonne cabbed Thwaites dumpers in action. With the site’s rough terrain and unpredictable weather, it was the perfect setting to put the new Thwaites dumpers through their paces. Richie explained that while cabbed dumpers are now a legal requirement at this size, the investment also reflects growing demand across the region. Customers want machines that are safe, comfortable and built to perform and Gordon Bow is making sure they’re ready to deliver.

Meeting that demand wasn’t easy. Gordon Bow had to act quickly, but securing the right machines at the right time was a challenge. Some suppliers were quoting lead times of up to six months -far too long for a business built on responsiveness. Richie and his team needed a supplier who could deliver promptly and consistently, without compromising on quality or support.

Strengthening the Partnership with Molson Scotland

Molson Scotland has been a trusted supplier to Gordon Bow Plant Hire for many years, and their latest delivery of 33 9-tonne cabbed Thwaites dumpers continues that strong relationship. While Molson’s ability to deliver quickly was a key factor, the decision was also based on the proven reliability and specification of the Thwaites machines. Richie Stuart explained that feedback from their fitters played a big role. Thwaites dumpers are easier to work on compared to other brands, which means less downtime and smoother maintenance for the team keeping the fleet running.

Power and Efficiency

The 9T Thwaites dumper stands out for its ability to work hard without adding complexity for those maintaining it. It runs on a 3.6L Deutz turbo diesel engine that produces 55.4kW of power and 405Nm of torque; more than enough for demanding site conditions. Importantly, the Thwaites dumper achieves Stage V emissions compliance without needing AdBlue, simplifying day-to-day operation. The hydrostatic transmission eliminates the need for a clutch or gears, making driving smoother while also reducing wear and tear. Fitters appreciate how easy it is to get to the service points: filters, fluid checks and the battery are all accessible from ground level, while the rear panel swings open for quick inspections. On top of that, the 5-inch dashboard screen gives early warnings when something is off, helping teams stay ahead of problems before they lead to downtime.

Maximum Uptime and Operator Comfort

For Gordon Bow’s customers, the benefits of the new Thwaites dumpers are already clear. Daily checks and servicing are quicker, the machines are easier to maintain and downtime is kept to a minimum. Richie Stuart explained that simplicity is key. If everything’s easy to access, it gets checked properly. That means less time in the workshop and more time on site, giving customers reliable equipment that’s ready to work when they need it.

On site, the Thwaites dumpers have also made a big impact. Their compact design makes them easy to manoeuvre, even on narrow access roads, while the cabbed setup has been a game-changer for operator comfort. Richie pointed out that the visibility from the cab is excellent, and the heating and insulation make a real difference during long shifts in cold or wet conditions. It’s the kind of upgrade that doesn’t just improve morale, it boosts productivity too. Operators are fresher, more focused and better equipped to get through a day’s work in demanding conditions.

Seamless Procurement and Aftersales Support

The experience of buying the Thwaites dumpers from Molson Scotland was another highlight. Richie Stuart described the process as smooth and collaborative, with the Molson team taking the time to understand Gordon Bow’s requirements and deliver accordingly. From specification advice to delivery scheduling, everything was handled professionally and efficiently, providing support that made a real difference during a busy period of fleet expansion.

Molson’s support didn’t end with delivery. They’ve remained readily available whenever Gordon Bow needed assistance, providing reassurance that help is only a phonecall away. That kind of responsiveness is vital when their customers are working on time-sensitive projects, where delays can have serious consequences. Richie said it’s reassuring to know Molson is there when needed, and that level of reliability is a big part of why they chose to work together.

Reliable Fleet Expansion for Northern Projects

For Gordon Bow, the 33 new Thwaites dumpers mean safer, more comfortable, and more reliable machines can be made available when and where they’re needed. With Molson Scotland ensuring quick delivery and ongoing support, Gordon Bow can keep expanding its fleet without compromising service, giving contractors the confidence that the right kit will always be ready to keep their projects moving.
