The Bennie Group, a family business founded more than 80 years ago and currently run by the 4th generation of the family. The Bennie story dates back to the 1930s with Peter Bennie starting a contract ploughing company before investing heavily in a wide range of machinery at its conception. Diversifying the approach to work and modernising the industry, much of the business’s early work was in aiding the war effort through the construction of airfields. Over nearly nine decades the business has grown and evolved into a family of great companies which operate in multiple sectors. Headquartered in Burton Latimer, Northamptonshire, the various companies within the Bennie Group portfolio company undertake a wide and diverse range of manufacturing, recycling, earthmoving and construction roles.
Commitment to Sustainable Construction and WRAP Protocol
The Bennie Group is one of the leading producers in the region, working to the Government’s WRAP protocol where required. This Government funded initiative was put in place to drive recycling, reuse and recovery of waste materials including construction waste. Working from several sites in Northamptonshire, Bennie are able to provide a wide range of products which are approved to the WRAP protocol through their crushing, re-cycling and screening division.
Strategic Investment in Innovative Machinery
Carrying on the company’s tradition of using the latest, innovative machinery to undertake projects, one of the most recent investments has been sourced from Molson Finlay, the UK’s supplier for the Finlay range of crushing and screening products.
Boosting Recycling Efforts with the Finlay 684
As part of the company’s drive of diverting more material from landfill into recycled products, they have returned to Molson Finlay and have added a new 684 two-deck incline screen to their fleet.
Key Features of the Finlay 684 2-Deck Incline Screen
Designed around a strong and durable tracked undercarriage, the 28.5 tonne, Finlay 684 2-deck incline screen is a compact, easily transportable machine that offers operators rapid set up and tear down times. Despite its compact dimensions the Finlay 684 incline screen features two large 4.3m x 1.7m inclined screen decks giving a large screening area to provide consistent high capacity, efficient screening. The large in-feed hooper allows material to be constantly fed over the screen box and can be fitted with an optional set of grizzly bars to remove larger material.
Engine and Application Focus
Powered by a fuel efficient 82kW StageV engine, the 684 incline screen can be configured with a variety of screening media to allow a range of different products to be handled efficiently and a range of different sized materials to be produced. Bennie’s incline screen will spend the majority of its time handling inert soils and small aggregates delivered into their site from earthmoving projects in the area.
Operational Mobility and Discharge Capacity
Whilst the new Finlay 684 incline screen will be almost permanently based at their Wood Lane site, the machine’s compact dimensions, when folded up, allow for ease of movement and transport between sites. Yett when set up ready to work, the two side conveyors extend high enough to allow the machine to discharge a large volume of material underneath.
Maintenance and User-Friendly Design
Finlay have designed the 684’s screen box to be user friendly with quick wedge tensioning on the top deck, well placed access holes and bottom deck hydraulic tensioning system to reduce time required for mesh changes. All of the incline screen’s major components can be accessed with ease allowing maintenance works to be carried out easily and downtime reduced.
Enhanced Productivity and Quality
The addition of the new Finlay 684 incline screen to the Bennie fleet has not only increased productivity at the site, but it has also improved the quality of the material produced.
Testimonial on Molson Finlay Partnership
“We have been purchasing crushing and screening equipment from Molson for several years and find the products to be of excellent build quality and reliability,” commented the site manager. “Their back up and service over that time has also been very good with any issues we have encountered being sorted out very quickly to get our machines back up and running.
