The market leader in compost turners is now available UK-wide. Designed for large-scale production and with a renowned industry name, the Eggersmann BACKHUS A 75 is the most powerful machine of its kind. Highly efficient, with an unbeatable turning capacity of up to 7,000m3 per hour, it has the potential to cut weeks off biomass and substrate processing times.

For large UK composting businesses looking to create a higher-quality product and lower cycle times, the BACKHUS A 75 offers industrial-scale productivity. With an 447kW (600hp) engine, it can clear windrows up to 7.5m wide and 3.3m high. When fitted with an XL Track Clearer, the maximum windrow width is then increased by 0.3m, maximising space use on large-scale plants.

The fold-out track clearers are hydraulically-powered and adjustable from the cab, with automatic ground contour adjustment, allowing for better traction. The rotors can also be constantly fine-tuned by the in-cab operator via a 12-inch TFT intuitive touch screen display. Reversible, height-adjustable (independently of the frame) and with variable speeds, this allows for maximum process control.

The display also presents the machine’s status information. If repairs or servicing need to be conducted, there are integrated platforms that automatically fold out when the cooling and engine hoods are opened. This allows for easier access to all components, helping teams minimise downtime.

Several features also help the operator work efficiently. The panoramic cabin offers great visibility and maximum comfort. In-cab features include an air-sprung driver’s seat, sun protection, aircon and heating as well as a Bluetooth radio. A camera and lighting package are also available as optional extras to maintain an excellent view of surroundings at all times and in any environment.

Fitted as standard, the hydraulic rear flap, Eggersmann TRACK Control and sophisticated cooling systems maximise the turner’s efficiency. The rear flap reduces the windrow offset at the start of crossings, allowing for better space management. TRACK control monitors the load and adjusts the forward drive to the level of resistance on the rotor. The reversible engine and hydraulic oil coolers can be operated manually, while the central air intake can be accessed by removable panels for cleaning.

Extra options allow businesses to customise the machine to their operations and maximise their composting efficiency. These include:

  • A fleece winder: wind and unwind fleece on the windrow, saving time and cutting the emissions of the turning process
  • Side conveyors: ideal for continuous flow layouts, this shifts the material by one windrow width at each pass
  • Housing: a safety and dust protection curtain that reduces emissions
  • A mobile cabin: allows for side exists, reducing transport preparation efforts
  • Landfill and wheel versions: massive track clearers and a wider undercarriage or wheels can be chosen to match specific site needs
  • Irrigation systems: BACKHUS HD hose drums can be wound and unwound from the cabin by remote control
  • Concentrate spraying systems: inoculate the windrow during turning in a targeted way, accelerating the composting process further
  • Eggersmann Management System: automatically adjusts the engine speed based on the hydraulic load, allowing for smooth processing and maximising fuel consumption

Thomas McKiver, Sales Director for Molson Green, said, “BACKHUS has long had a strong reputation in this specialist machinery, so it’s great to be able to bring this level of efficiency to large-scale UK composting businesses. Backed by our aftersales package, customers can make the most of this machine’s high productivity from day one.”
