Molson Finlay Scotland is proud to have sold their first Evoquip Colt 600 compact tracked screener in Scotland.

Just a few months after taking over the dealership for the brand, the first compact screens were delivered by Salesman Mike McKenzie to Novar Estates situated north of Cromarty Firth in the Scottish Highlands. .

Sustainable forestry in Scotland

As one would expect, a huge estate in Scotland is covered in sustainable woodlands which  generate a significant volume of timber. Much of this is used in their on-site workshops to manufacture items used around the estate, as well as items for sale to the wider community.

Sawmill residue from the forestry operations has been chipped and sent out for biomass for several years. However,  with the recent rise in demand for higher quality chips, the estate needed to differentiate itself from other biomass suppliers. To achieve this, they needed to produce a higher quality of regulated material with little to no dust or unusable chips.

Evoquip Colt 600 sorts the sawmill waste

“We had recently been appointed as the Evoquip dealer for Scotland when Novar Estates contacted us,” Mike commented. “Whilst we’ve had the Evoquip range available over the border, the new availability of the product in Scotland immediately gave us the ideal solution for the estate’s requirements.”

With an operating weight of just 12 tonnes, a transport length of 10.98m and a width of just 2.25m, the Colt 600 compact screens are an ideal solution for the estate as they screen all of their material inside an existing barn with limited headroom. “All of our material is handled by a telehandler which is ideal for the low headroom,” explained one of the Novar Estates team. “We then store the material in the adjacent barn ready for shipment to our customer or for placing into our own biomass boiler on site.”

The Colt 600 compact screens have been specifically designed for operators for whom versatility, manoeuvrability and transportability are of key importance. It is small enough to fit inside a container for transport, but strong enough to withstand the toughest of applications. The Colt 600 compact screens are an aggressive forward-facing machine that can work in aggregates, sand and gravel, top soil, construction, demolition and recycling applications, particularly where site space is at a premium.

Designed for easy operation and control

The tracked screen is remotely controlled via a wireless handset, allowing the operator to monitor the surrounding area when moving the machine. Powered by a 75hp, StageV C2.2 CAT diesel, these compact screens can also be supplied with an alternative hybrid electric drive system.

The engine, hydraulic and cooling packs are all packaged away at the rear of the machine in a conveniently accessible steel housing to protect them from damage. Like the major components, the fluid filling points are all tucked away near ground level for easy access. While the remote control box is the most commonly used method of operation, there is also a set of controls on both sides of the compact screens should they be required.

Compact screens, quality output

Material is loaded into the screener’s 3m3 hopper where it is vibrated to lose dust, the chips are then fed over the screen box where they are separated into selected sizes. The Colt 600 compact screens use a 2.34m x 1.17m double deck screen to process material. Both decks on the screen can be fitted with a wide range of screening media depending on the material and sizes of finished product required, allowing the machine to consistently produce two high quality products simultaneously.

With a large range of screen media available including Bofor bars, finger screens, woven mesh and punch plates, the Colt 600 compact screens provide the user with a level of versatility that is second to none. The Colt 600 compact screens also have a third folding conveyor should an additional size of material need to be produced in the future.

The addition of the Evoquip range has fitted in with the rest of Molson Young’s product portfolio exceptionally well. “Our larger crushing and screening ranges are very well received in Scotland,” Mike commented. “Having the addition of the Colt range has allowed us to target a new audience as well as offering existing customers a one stop shop for all of their needs.”
