A range of equipment supplied by Molson Group is playing a pivotal role in a housebuilding development that requires the reprocessing and remediation of around 60 hectares of former landfill in Sussex.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ahead of a\nmulti-million pound project that will see the construction of more than 2,500\nmuch-needed family homes, West Midlands-based Dunton Environmental is carrying\nout an extensive seven-year landfill reprocessing and remediation programme at\nKilnwood Vale near Crawley, West Sussex.  \nAnd a range of machinery supplied by multi-faceted equipment importer\nand distributor Molson is playing a key role in the process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Soil Hospital<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

To most\npeople, a former landfill site is a blot on the landscape; a no-go zone filled\nwith potentially toxic and hazardous materials that leach gas and contaminate\nground water.   To Dunton Environmental,\nhowever, a former landfill site is an opportunity; a brownfield site longing to\nbecome green.   The company utilises a\nvariety of scientific methods to treat former landfill waste and contaminated\nsoils including heavy metal remediation and bioremediation.   Much of this treatment takes place off site\nin facilities Dunton describes as \u201csoil hospitals\u201d.   \u201cWe bring soils back to life,\u201d explains\nDunton Environmental\u2019s general director Tony Sadla.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At Kilnwood\nVale, a massive 60 hectare site acquired by Crest Nicholson and now divided\namongst a number of premier UK housebuilders, the company is dealing with\nsomething far less noxious and hazardous.  \nDunton Environmental first arrived on the site in 2015 and, aside from a\nshort break of around seven months, has been there ever since.   There is still another three years of the\ncontract left to run.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe\nlandfill site was largely inert,\u201d explains Dunton Environmental associate\ndirector Sean Deloughery.   \u201cThere was no\nhousehold waste.   It is made up\nprimarily of construction and demolition waste but we are coming across timber,\nplastics, pockets of clay and the occasional car part or two.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The task\nfacing Dunton Environmental is primarily one of segregation.   The company is using a range of excavators \u2013\nincluding a Kobelco SK270SRLC-5 and a pair of Kobelco SK210H LC-10 Hybrid units\n\u2013 to dig down into the landfilled waste.  \nRubble, metals, plastics and timer are then separated prior to further\nprocessing offsite.   Meanwhile, a membrane\nis installed to mitigate and control the escape of gases.   This is then capped with high quality\ncleaned topsoil before house construction can begin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sales and Service<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Although Dunton Environmental runs a mixed equipment fleet \u2013\nincluding a recently-acquired a pair of Ammann ASC130 single drum rollers \u2013 it\nis notable that the company takes a good deal of its equipment from\nBristol-based Molson Equipment.   \u201cWe\nlike dealing with Molson because their broad range of equipment covers\nvirtually all our needs including both regular and Hybrid excavators and our Terex\nFinlay 595 heavy duty screener,\u201d explains Sean Deloughery.   \u201cBut the primary reason we continue to choose\nMolson is the strength and responsiveness of their aftersales service.   With some of our other suppliers, it can be\ndifficult to get an engineer on site the same week.   But Molson just seems willing and able to\nrespond almost immediately.   I made a\ncall to them recently at 1pm.   By 3.30\npm the same day, there was a Molson engineer on site rectifying the problem.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
