After making its European debut in Geel (province of Antwerp, Belgium)\nin 1995 the company is now located in a new state-of-the-art European\nheadquarters in Tessenderlo (province of Limburg, Belgium).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Becoming an independent business unit in 2017, defining the global\nvision 2023, and receiving the recent Technical Innovation Award for the new\nwheel loader, are clear indications that things keep on moving within Hyundai\nConstruction Equipment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">However, HCEE\u2019s growth has been gradual and the company comes from\nhumble beginnings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>History<\/strong><br \/>\nHyundai\u2019s history can be traced back to Korea to 1947 \u2013 when Mr. Ju Yung Chung\nfounded a small construction company. With Creative Wisdom, Positive Thinking\nand Unwavering Drive (the company\u2019s values), Hyundai\u2019s activities quickly\nexpanded into new industries to grow into a global company.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Hyundai Heavy Industries was founded in 1972 as a shipbuilding company.\nIn the following years, other divisions were added including Offshore, Marine\nEngine, Industrial Plant, Electro Electric Division and Green Energy. The\nConstruction Equipment division was founded in the mid-1980s. During the early\nyears, a limited number of excavators and wheeled loader models were produced.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At the end of the nineties, Hyundai also started to develop forklift\ntrucks. The HCEE forklift portfolio at that time comprised of various models\nwith lifting capacities between 1 ton and 25 tons \u2013 driven by LPG, diesel or\nelectric. The latest forklift trucks come with lithium-ion batteries with\nstate-of-the-art technology. Soon after its establishment, the Construction\nEquipment Division spread its wings internationally and established companies\non all continents \u2013 including Europe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Milestone\n1995: Settling in Geel<\/strong><br \/>\nThe official founding dates back to the 7th of February 1995. HCEE settled in\nGeel in the renovated buildings of a former metal construction company under\nthe name of Hyundai Heavy Industries Europe NV. The name would remain unchanged\ntill September 2017 when it changed into Hyundai Construction Equipment Europe\nNV. The name switch coincided with the move from Geel to brand new 81,000 m\u00b2\npremises in Tessenderlo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Milestone\n2017: The European Headquarters moves to Tessenderlo<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A second key date in 1995 is the 12th of December, which marked the\nstart-up of the assembly line in Belgium. Four years later the assembly of\nmachines was reduced, and the company was transformed into a European\ndistribution centre in Belgium \u2013 which it still is to this day. Today the\nmachines all arrive via RORO and container ships that sail directly from Ulsan\ninto the port of Antwerp (Verrebroek) in a 33,000 m\u00b2 stockyard.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Following its success in Europe, the company outgrew the location after\n20 years. The move to Tessenderlo in October 2017 to the new facility allowed\nHCEE to double the capacity to supply machinery parts, welcome customers and\nintensify the commercial and technical training to the network of distributors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The HQ is located along the E313 highway, a situation that offers ideal\naccessibility conditions, and covers a 5,400 m\u00b2 three-store office building, a\n12,000 m\u00b2 warehouse, a European training center called Hyundai Academy of 2600\nm\u00b2, a 430 m\u00b2 exhibition hall and a 450 m\u00b2 event room. This move marks another\nmajor milestone in the path towards the common goal to enter the top tier\nranking in the global construction equipment market by 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Milestone\n2020: 25 years in Europe crowned with an international award<\/strong><br \/>\nIn January 2020 HCEE scoops the Technical Innovation Award, in the \u2018Medium\nWheel Loaders\u2019 category for the new HL960A. The award-winning HL960A will take\ncenter stage on the Hyundai booth at Samoter 2020 (Italy) in March. It comes as\nno surprise that the HL960A won this highly regarded award. The\nstate-of-the-art machine is packed with high-end features and functions. The\nmachine boasts many leading technological innovations \u2013 which include better\nfuel efficiency, enhanced safety, longer uptime and improved fleet management.\nThis recognition by a selection of international industry experts and\njournalists is the next step in an ambitious plan to build high quality, high\nperforming and comfortable machines.<strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mr Sungwoo Lee, Managing Director HCEE, commented on Hyundai\u2019s rich\nhistory and the company\u2019s bright future, he said, \u201c2020 is for Hyundai\nConstruction Equipment a big celebration year. It is the 25th anniversary of\nthe establishment of HCE in Europe. Europe has always been a key market for\nHyundai Construction Equipment with demanding end-users and professional\ndealers. Europe is the benchmark. When you can sell in Europe you can sell\neverywhere \u2013 and Belgium is an excellent location to accomplish such. The\ncountry is centrally located with an important seaport and a multilingual work\npopulation. There is a good cooperation with local and provincial authorities,\nand we can rely on a professional business environment with qualitative\nsuppliers.
